Frequently asked questions
What insurances do you take?
I am in network with Aetna, BCBS, Cigna/Evernoth, and Optum/UnitedHealthcare. If I am out of network with your plan, I am happy to provide you with a superbill if you are hoping to file a claim with your insurance.
What forms of payment are accepted?
All varieties of credit and debit cards are accepted. Payment is completed through a HIPAA-compliant (private and secure) service within my electronic medical record program. My medical record program is Sessions Health.
Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?
I offer both! You can do either, or some of both. We can talk about what you’re ideal schedule would be during our consultation call.
My virtual sessions are held online using Sessions Health, my HIPAA compliant platform, and my in-person sessions are held at my offices. I have office locations in Cary and Raleigh.
What happens after I message you?
After you reach out to me, we’ll schedule a free, 15-minute, no-obligation consultation call. You can also skip the back and forth and schedule with me here. On this call you’ll tell me a bit about why you’re seeking therapy, and I’ll tell you a little about myself and approach. I will happily answer any questions you have about working with me. If you feel ready, we can schedule your first appointment, the assessment. You can also schedule at a later time, or not at all. There is no pressure to schedule nor will I attempt to offer you a “sales pitch.”
Are my sessions still private if they are online?
They sure are. I conduct virtual sessions in totally private rooms with 4 walls and a door that closes with sound machines on the outside of it, the same way I do for my in-person sessions. My medical record program, Sessions Health, has video chat that is HIPAA-compliant.
How long are sessions?
Individual sessions are about 50 minutes to an 1 hour; couples sessions about 90 minutes. How often we meet is ultimately up to you and/or your insurance coverage. This is something I can help you decide based on your schedule, budget, and the urgency of your situation.
What is an assessment and do I have to have one?
For your first session, I am going to do my best to get to know you and why you are seeking therapy. This means that, for about 90 minutes, I am going to try to learn as much as I can about your emotional, cognitive, social, physical, and spiritual health, since these influence our overall wellbeing. To do this, I’ll ask you questions and do a lot of listening. I want to hear your story. Anything you don’t want to talk about, you do not have to talk about. By the end of our time together, I’ll be able to explore with you what your options are for next steps. This could include continuing to meet with me for therapy, or it could include exploring if a different provider or type of treatment would be a better fit for you. Whatever you decide you want your next steps to be, at the end of this session, you’ll have completed the assessment!
Important note: for you, the assessment should feel like a conversation, not an interrogation, even though I do have questions to ask. While this is my chance to learn as much as I can about you, it is also your opportunity to assess if I am the right fit for you. You are invited to ask questions about my approach and what to expect all along the way.
